9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh “Mohammed provided the CIA with an autobiographical statement, describing a rebellious childhood, his decision to join the Muslim Brotherhood as a teenager, and his time in the United States as a student at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, from where he graduated in 1986 with a degree in mechanical engineering. ‘KSM’s limited and negative experience in the United States–which included a brief jail stay because of unpaid bills–almost certainly helped propel him on his path to becoming a terrorist,’ according to the [declassified] intelligence summary [by the CIA, dated July 13, 2004]. ‘He stated that his contact with Americans, while minimal, confirmed his view that the United States was a debauched and racist country.’ ”
