On March 6, 1993, “The U.S. State Department finally took some responsibility for allowing [World Trade Center bombing conspirator Sheikh Omar Abdel] Rahman into the country in the first place. In a New York Times story, officials admitted that the U.S. embassy in Khartoum [Sudan] had overlooked the Sheikh’s presence on the Watch List when granting him a visa. Worse, after his visa was revoked, the INS [Immigration and Naturalization Service] office in Newark [New Jersey] mistakenly gave him a green card, granting Rahman permanent resident status.”
