3/5/1994

“On March 5, 1994, the exasperated Saudi government took the extraordinary step of stripping Osama of his citizenship, citing in a succinct communiqué ‘irresponsible behavior and his refusal to obey instructions issued to him.’ …His bank accounts and liquid assets were frozen and his inheritance thereafter effectively confiscated. His family the same day took its own distance from their wayward sibling…[and] issued a two-line statement, expressing ‘regret, denunciation and condemnation of acts that Osama bin Laden may have committed which we do not condone and which we reject.’ …no other critic of the Al-Saud had ever been deprived of citizenship.”
