In Iraq, on March 31, 2004, “a two-vehicle convoy of private security company Blackwater USA employees was ambushed while traveling through the Sunni stronghold of Fallujah. A group of masked gunmen opened fire with assault weapons and grenades and killed all four of the Americans. A mob then mutilated, burned, and dragged the bodies through the streets of the city, finally hanging them from a bridge that crossed the Euphrates River.”
