In his speech before the United Nations on February 5, 2003 in which he cited a need to invade Iraq, Secretary of State Colin Powell said: ” ‘every statement I make today is backed up by sources, solid sources. These are not assertions. What we’re giving you are facts and conclusions based on solid intelligence.’ …[CIA Director George] Tenet had personally guaranteed Powell that every claim he made was on firm ground.”
