According to information in The New York Times on May 26, 2004: “…an army survey of prisoner deaths and mistreatment in Iraq and Afghanistan showed a widespread pattern of abuse involving a significant number of military units in many different locations. This pattern of abuse clearly did not spring from a few twisted minds at the lowest ranks of our military enlisted personnel. It came from twisted values and atrocious policies at the highest level of our government. This was done by our leaders, in our name.”
