Larry Diamond is a professor (by courtesy) of Political Science and Sociology at Stanford University and a leading scholar on Democracy Studies. He is a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, where he also directs the Center for Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. He is the Founding Co-editor of the Journal of Democracy since its inception in 1990 and serves as senior consultant at the International Forum for Democratic Studies of the National Endowment for Democracy. In 2004, he was asked by his former colleague and then-U.S. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, to serve as a senior adviser on Governance to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad. His experience in Iraq led him to write Squandering Victory: The American Occupation and the Bungled Effort to Bring Democracy to Iraq. In 2002, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and was a contributing author of its report on Foreign Aid in the National Interest. He currently resides in Stanford, California. |
