3. Biography:

Karen DeYoung, author of Soldier: The Life of Colin Powell, is an associate editor at The Washington Post, covering terrorism and foreign policy issues for the National and Foreign Desk. Shortly after 9/11, DeYoung focused much of her reporting on counterterrorism and foreign policy issues leading up to the U.S. war with Iraq.

Working for the paper for over 30 years, DeYoung served as The Washington Post’s Assistant Managing Editor for National News from 1990 to 1999 and was responsible for covering the White House, Congress, national policies, and the newspaper’s domestic bureaus.

After working as a non-staff stringer in West Africa, DeYoung joined the Post in 1975 in the foreign news operation, serving as Bureau Chief for both Latin America and London from 1977 to 1988.
