3. Biography: |
James R. Thompson was Illinois’ longest-serving Governor, from 1991 to 1997. He was also a Member of the 9/11 Commission. Thompson began his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney of Cook County in 1959, and an Assistant Attorney General of Illinois, then as a U.S. Attorney appointed by President Nixon. During his 14 years as Governor of Illinois, Thompson was a Chairman of multiple commissions and task forces. After his time as Governor, Thompson rejoined the law firm of Winston & Strawn. He was the Chairman and CEO until 2006, when he took his current position of Senior Chairman of the firm. |
