John Famer is Dean and Professor of Law at Rutgers School of Law-Newark. He assumed this position in July 2009 after leaving the law firm Arseneault, Whipple, Farmer, Fassett and Azzarello, LLP, of which he was a Founding Partner in 2007. He was also Partner at K&L Gates law firm from 2005-2007. Farmer’s career in public service includes serving as Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy General James Jones for Middle East Regional Security in 2008, Senior Counsel and Team Leader of the 9/11 Commission from 2003-2004, Attorney General of the State of New Jersey from 1999-2002, Chief Counsel for New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman’s Administration from 1997-1999, and Deputy Chief Counsel and Assistant Counsel for the same administration from 1994-1997. In 2009, his book The Ground Truth: The Story Behind America’s Defense on 9/11, a reconsideration of the U.S. government’s 9/11 response, was published by Riverhead/Penguin Press. Farmer is also a frequent contributor to The Star-Ledger and The New York Times. His article “At Freedom’s Edge” was part of a Star-Ledger series that received the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award for outstanding legal reporting in 2006. At Rutgers School of Law-Newark, Farmer teaches New Jersey Constitutional Law and National Security Law. He is also President of the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. |
