1. Name: John Ashcroft, J.D.
2. Title: Former U.S. Attorney General
3. Biography: John Ashcroft was elected Governor of Missouri in 1984. After serving two terms as Governor, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1994. He lost his Senate seat in 2000 and was chosen by President George W. Bush to be the 79th Attorney General of the United States.

The Sep. 11, 2001, attacks occurred soon after Ashcroft took charge of the Department of Justice. Ashcroft was a strong supporter of the USA Patriot Act, an anti-terrorism act passed by Congress in Oct. 2001. He was succeeded as Attorney General by Alberto Gonzales.

Following his government service, Ashcroft founded Ashcroft Group, LLC, a strategic consulting firm. He is also a Distinguished Professor of Law and Government at Regent University.
