3. Biography: | Gilles Kepel is a French scholar and analyst of the Islamic and the Arab world. He is the Professor at the Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) in Paris, Director of its doctoral programme on the Muslim World at Sciences Po, and also the Director of the “Middle East” book series at the Presses Universitaires de France.
He is currently the Philippe Roman Chair in History and International Affairs for 2009-2010 (Centre for Diplomacy & Strategy), at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE IDEAS). Professor Kepel is an acclaimed scholar and author who specializes in political Islam, the Middle East, and international relations between the Muslim World and the West. His books include The War for Muslim Minds, Bad Moon Rising, and Allah in the West: Islamic movements in America and Europe, and most recently Beyond Terror and Martyrdom, which was reviewed by Ian Buruma for New York Review of Books. |
