3. Biography:

Frank Rich is the Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times. Since joining the paper in 1980, Rich has held several positions—first serving as its Chief Theater Critic, then in 1999 he became Senior Writer for The New York Times Magazine and in 2003, Rich became the front-page columnist for the Sunday Arts & Leisure section, while also advising and helping in the redesign of that section.

He was on the staff of Time, the New York Post, and New Times magazine after starting his career in the early ’70s as a Founding Editor of The Richmond Mercury, a weekly newspaper in Virginia.

Rich writes about culture and politics, connecting them with a broad range of topics including television, literature, pop culture, current events and entertainment. He has appeared on television as a Political Commentator and in 2006 wrote The Greatest Story Ever Sold: The Decline and Fall of Truth From 9/11 to Katrina, where he publically criticized the media’s support of the Bush Administration policies following the Sep. 11 terrorist attacks on the U.S.

Rich has two sons and lives in Manhattan with his wife, Author and Novelist Alex Witchel, who is a Staff Writer for The New York Times Magazine.
