Pakistani immigration officials detained Mohammed Saddiq Odeh, leader of al Qaeda’s Mombassa cell, on August 7, 1998. “Under questioning by immigration, Odeh admitted his participation in the Nairobi [embassy bombing] plot. …Most important, though, he admitted to being a member of al Qaeda, under the leadership of bin Laden.”
