In August 2001, potential hijacker Zacarias Moussaoui raised concerns at his flight school in Egan, Minnesota, “after attempting to rush his flight training, calling his desire to fly a jumbo jet an ‘ego-boosting thing,’ and asking instructors how much damage a hijacker could do flying a fully loaded 747. Fortunately, an alert flight manager…contacted the Minneapolis FBI office, and Moussaoui was arrested on visa violations the night of August 15 [2001]. In his possession FBI agents found a statement showing a deposit of $32,000 at an Oklahoma bank. Moussaoui admitted he’d recently traveled to Morocco, Malaysia, and Pakistan on business, but he couldn’t provide any details on his employment.”
