On July 27, 2005, “The DOJ [Department of Justice] inspector general releases a new audit of the FBI’s translation program. …the report reveals that the Bureau has met its translator hiring targets in fewer than half of the languages examined, and that the quantity of unreviewed counterterrorism audio is increasing, from 4,000 hours in April 2004 to 8,000 hours in March 2005. FBI field offices are still failing to review high priority intelligence data within twenty-four hours. Worse, there is no nationwide system in place to monitor the quality of translations.”
