Saddam’s sons Uday and Qusay Hussein were killed in a siege by Special Operations soldiers on July 22, 2003. “When it was over, the Americans said they had irrefutable proof–dental records and X rays and personal viewings by four members of the old regime already in custody–that the bodies were those of Uday and Qusay. But some Iraqis remained in doubt, so the Americans released grisly photographs, first raw head-and-shoulders views, and then pictures of the faces and bodies after they had been cleaned up by morticians.”
