In an appearance on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show on June 8, 2005, Stewart “asked [former Secretary of State Colin] Powell whether he hadn’t had a call from anyone in Germany saying [Iraqi informant] Curveball was some kind of a ‘nut job.’ Powell didn’t skip a beat and replied: ‘Not me. There may have been somebody who was called inside the system and said *beware of Curveball,* but it never got to me and it never got to the president [Bush].’ His information, he said, had come directly from the director of central intelligence [George Tenet], not outside outfits like the Office of Special Plans at the Pentagon.”
