Following the Supreme Court's June 29, 2006, decision in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, which said President Bush had to abide by the Geneva Conventions in the war on terror, Bush considered drafting legislation to reverse the decision. Secretary of State Condoleezza "Rice intervened, making a personal plea to Bush, saying, according to a witness, 'Mr. President, you can't reverse the court!' …In the end, Bush sided with Rice…saying, 'I accept the decision.'
