According to a declassified CIA intelligence report from June 12, 2001, a senior aide to Usama Bin Ladin “traveled frequently to the United States and was attempting to arrange residence in the United States for some of his associates. …The first of these individuals was [redacted] known as (Khaled) [redacted]. …Among other things, Khaled was active in recruiting people to travel outside Afghanistan, including to the United States, to carry out unspecified activities on behalf of Bin Ladin. [Redacted] Once they arrived in the United States, he noted that they would be expected to establish contact with colleagues already living there. [Redacted] they would be engaged in planning terrorist-related activities.”
