“On June 11 [2001], CIA case officers met with the agents of the JTTF [Joint Terrorism Task Force] in New York who were handling the [USS] Cole investigation. A year and a half after the infamous [January 2000] Malaysian meeting the CIA was finally showing the FBI photos taken in Kuala Lumpur. The Bureau agents were asked to identify the parties present. Reportedly, they picked out Tawfig bin Atash, the ex-boss of Osama bin Laden’s security detail, who was later tied to the Cole bombing. But when the Bureau asked for more details, the CIA reportedly refused to cooperate and the meeting turned into a shouting match.”
