A public announcement by the CIA on May 28, 2003, claimed that “Two mysterious trailers found in Iraq in April and May…were mobile units designed to produce deadly germs, and were ‘the strongest evidence to date that Iraq was hiding a biological warfare program.’ For weeks, there had been intense speculation about the purpose and importance of the trailers. Now, the Bush administration seemed to be offering definitive word: The CIA’s analysis, done in collaboration with the Defense Intelligence Agency and posted on the CIA Web site, concluded that each trailer could brew enough germs to produce, without further processing, one or two kilograms of dried agent each month.”
