On May 16, 2002, in a press briefing at the White House to discuss the August 6, 2001, President’s Daily Brief (PDB), which had been disclosed by news outlets the day before, National Security Advisor Condoleezza “Rice discussed the PDB only in generalities, and with a detached, academic air. ‘Now, on August 6, the president [Bush] received a presidential daily briefing which was not a warning briefing, but an analytic report,’ Rice said. ‘It mentioned hijacking, but hijacking in the traditional sense.’ A short time later, she emphasized her point as if she were speaking to a classroom: ‘I want to reiterate, it was not a warning. There was no specific time, place or method mentioned.’ ”
