“Fallujah [Iraq] was divided into two sectors, northern and southern, and two Marine battalions would take each sector. By 5 April [2004], the Marines’ operation was well underway, but the insurgents put up stiff resistance. …On 9 April, the Coalition declared a unilateral ceasefire. The US Marines, having initially opposed the operation, were incensed. They had captured nearly a third of the city with few casualties, and felt that the politicians had let them down.”
