After a press conference on April 18, 2006, President Bush was questioned about Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who had recently received criticism from numerous generals. ” ‘I don’t appreciate the speculation about Don Rumsfeld,’ Bush said. ‘He’s doing a fine job.’ As for the generals, he said, ‘I listen to all voices, but mine’s the final decision. …I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I’m the decider, and I decide what is best. And what’s best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense.’ …Bush gave Rumsfeld another seven months in office.”
