In March 1999, the leaders of a group of takfiris (radical Muslims) “met in Peshawar [Pakistan] to discuss bin Laden and afterward issued a fatwa ‘calling for the death of the infidel,’ and then ‘launched a campaign’ to kill bin Laden and other al-Qaeda members, according to an article in the Sunday Times. They ‘declared Usama bin Ladin a non-Muslim and an agent of the United States, adding that he was staying in Afghanistan to further *his master’s interests.* ‘ Pakistani police officials claimed that the takfiris attacked bin Laden at least three times, and that there were other shootouts between takfiris and al-Qaeda members.” [The 15th of the month used for date sorting purposes only.]
