General Counsel of the U.S. Navy Alberto “Mora attempted to take on the most powerful figures in the Bush Administration. …on January 6, 2003, Mora was upset to learn…that the abuse at Guantanamo…was getting worse. [Alleged 20th hijacker Mohammed al-] Qahtani had been forcibly shaved, force-fed intravenously, and ordered to bark like a dog. He’d been forced to listen to pop music at an earsplitting volume, deprived of more sleep, and kept in a painfully cold room. His hands had been shackled to his sides so that he couldn’t pray. It was around this time that he had begged to be allowed to commit suicide.”
