“Another stunning opportunity to stop the first WTC bombing came on December 19, 1992. As the Feds later learned, [WTC bombing conspirator] Mahmud Abouhalima had placed a call to [former FBI informant] Emad Salem. But since the former Egyptian intelligence officer [Salem] had been forced out as an undercover asset by ASAC [Assistant Special Agent in charge of the FBI’s New York Office Carson] Dunbar, Salem never returned the call. It wasn’t his job anymore to risk his life for five hundred dollars a week–especially if he wasn’t appreciated.”
