“When it came out that [Saudi ambassador to the U.S. Prince] Bandar’s wife, Princess Haifa, had made charitable contributions that may have inadvertently helped two of the [9/11] hijackers get settled in San Diego, [Secretary of State Colin] Powell visited NPR’s Morning Edition on November 28, 2002, to defend the prince and princess, although with faint praise. ‘I have known Prince Bandar and Princess Haifa for many years,’ Powell told interviewer Michele Keleman, ‘and I think it most unlikely that they would do anything that would support any terrorist organization or individual. But let’s see what the facts are.’ ”
