Alleged 20th hijacker Mohammed al-Qahtani was captured in Afghanistan and sent to Guantanamo, where he was tortured. “Al-Qahtani’s interrogations continued over forty-nine days–from November 23, 2002, to January 11, 2003. The log published in Time magazine [on March 3, 2006] described how he was forcibly administered intravenous fluids and drugs and given enemas to keep his body functioning so his interrogation could continue. He was also restrained on a swivel chair, deprived of sleep for long periods, and forced to act like a dog. The temperature in the room was lowered, and cold water was thrown on his face. He was forced to pray to Osama bin Laden. At no point did al-Qahtani confess that he was an al Qaeda member. But his accounts were described as inconsistent, probably because he was tortured for prolonged periods to a degree that could not be measured.”
