On January 1, 1993, “A group of fundamentalist Islamic clerics from Egypt, Afghanistan, Algeria, Sudan, and Iran issued a communiqué that was joined by Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein. It ominously announced a jihad against all Christian nations, urging devout Muslims worldwide to strike out against corrupting Western and Christian influence. During the next few weeks there was a dramatic upsurge in Islamic violence.”
