On October 7, 1998, the Justice Department “indicted Wadih El-Hage, the Arizona-based al Qaeda operative who had been bin Laden’s personal secretary in the Sudan. The indictment laid bare bin Laden’s ties to the murderous Islamic Group (IG), which had been run by Sheikh [Omar Abdel] Rahman–another link to the [WTC bomber Ramzi] Yousef cell.”
