Vice President Dick Cheney was interviewed by Jim Lehrer of PBS on October 12, 2001. When Lehrer asked about the recent anthrax attacks, “Without challenging the FBI directly, Cheney questioned the logic of its claims that the attacks had not been made by terrorists. He methodically listed things he said ‘we know’ about Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda: they attacked America, they have attacked American interests before, they have tried to acquire weapons of mass destruction, and they have trained people in Afghanistan to use those materials. ‘So, you start to piece it all together. Again, we have not completed the investigation and maybe it’s a coincidence, but I must say I’m a skeptic.’ ”
