Jonathan G. Clarke is a retired British Foreign Service Officer and currently works as a Consultant on European Affairs and is a Foreign Affairs Scholar at the CATO Institute in Washington, D.C. He was a Counselor with the British Diplomatic Service with assignments in Germany, Zimbabwe, and the United States.

He is the author of After the Crusade: American Foreign Policy for the Post-Superpower Age and Co-author of the 2005 best seller America Alone: The Neo-Conservative and the Global Order. Clarke has contributed numerous articles to such publications as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, the Los Angeles Times, National Interest, Orbis, and The Washington Post.
